Lianne Mellor is an Artist and Allotmenteer based in Exchange Place Studios, Sheffield. Her still life paintings and prints capture the fleeting abundance of flowers, fruits and vegetables grown on her allotment. Inspired by her years as a gardener, Mellor's work celebrates the seasonal rhythms of nature and the dedication required to cultivate life.
With a background in architecture, Mellor brings a keen eye for spatial composition to her work. Her paintings are often built up in layers, from the background to the foreground, creating a sense of depth and dimensionality. This meticulous approach reflects the slow and deliberate process of growing plants.
Mellor's work has been exhibited in a number of solo and group shows. Her 2021 solo exhibition, ‘In a Vase’, helped increase public awareness of her work, and her paintings are now in several private collections.
Regular collaborations with organisations such as Yorkshire Artspace, Friends of the Botanical Gardens, Sheffield City Council, Pollen and Anomaly Arts have developed the public’s awareness and engagement with Mellor’s work through delivering talks, tours, allotment visits and workshops.
In 2024 she received funding from the Arts Council to further develop her creative practice. She is currently exploring new printmaking techniques and collaborating with a herbalist and folklore storyteller to add further depth and meaning to her compositions, rooted in the produce from the allotment.
